Doubles Shine In First Day At David Kent Invite
November 04, 2016 | Women's Tennis
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – In the first day of play at the David Kent Invitational, the Washington women's tennis team faced a mixed group in doubles and host-school Texas A&M in singles.
They began the day by sweeping all three of their doubles matches, starting with No. 13 Nour Abbes and Miki Kobayashi defeating Donika Bashota and Alexis Pereira of TCU 6-3. Facing TCU's Seda Arantekin and Madison Tedford, Stacey Fung and Alexis Prokopuik won 6-4, with Kenadi Hance and Katarina Kopcalic winning their match 6-2.
"It was a great day," said Prokopuik. "Stacey and I played a really good first doubles match as a pair and we both stayed aggresive from the back of the net."
With rain slowing play throughout singles, the Huskies were still able to complete their matches, winning three of their seven contests. The first win came from Prokopuik, as she grabbed a 6-3, 6-1 win over No. 102 Tina Bokhua of Texas A&M, with the second coming after the rain delay when Kopcalic defeated Domenica Gonzalez in a tough three-setter 7-6, 0-6, 6-3.
"Today was definitely a strong start," said Hance. "I think we came together as a team, which really showed in our energy as well as the way we competed."
The Huskies are scheduled to face Rice tomorrow in singles and Texas A&M in doubles.
