UW Women's Rowing Set For Head of the Lake
November 01, 2016 | Women's Rowing
SEATTLE - The Washington women's rowing program will compete at the Head of the Lake this Sunday, Nov. 6 on the Huskies' home waters. The three-mile course starts in Lake Union, crosses Portage Bay, runs through the Montlake Cut and finishes in Lake Washington. Racing will begin at 8:00 a.m. PT.
The Head of the Lake is co-hosted by the Lake Washington Rowing Club and Washington Rowing. It is Seattle's premier fall rowing event. This year's field includes Stanford, Washington State, Oregon, and Oregon State, as well as many other Pacific Northwest and Canadian universities.
The UW women will be competing in five different events on Sunday, starting with the women's championship eight at 8:07 am., where they will enter two boats.
"We are looking forward to racing this weekend on our home course in front of the Husky fans," said head coach Yaz Farooq. "It will be the first competition for many of our freshman and we are excited for them to experience just what it means to represent UDub."
The Huskies will feature one boat in the women's junior varsity eights at 8:10 a.m., as well as three boats in the women's collegiate fours at 8:45 a.m.
To finish off the day, the Huskies will enter seven pairs in the women's open pairs at 11:04 a.m. and two eights in the women's open eight at 11:42 a.m.
UW is coming off a strong showing at the Head of the American in Sacramento, where they placed first in the women's collegiate eights and finished three pairs in the top five of the collegiate pairs.
Fans can watch the Head of the American from the banks of the Montlake Cut and follow the action live on Twitter (@UW_Rowing). A full list of entries and live results are made available through RegattaCentral.com
