Neale, Prouse Pick Up Pac-12 Awards
November 01, 2016 | Cross Country
After missing two cross country seasons and one track season, Neale got back into action on the track back in the 2016 indoor season, and by the end of outdoor track she had made the NCAA final at 1,500-meters. She has carried that momentum into her first season back on the cross country courses since 2013, and solidified herself as one of the top distance runners in the NCAA. She becomes just the second Husky to win Pac-12 Athlete of the Year honors, joining Kendra Schaaf, who won the award in both 2008 and 2009.
Prouse has made a big leap thus far in her sophomore season. Coming off a summer where she made the World Junior Championships finals in the steeplechase, setting a Canadian Junior National Record in the process, Prouse has ran up front for UW all season, winning the Sundodger and Washington Invitationals, and placing right behind Neale at Wisconsin as the two led the Huskies to the team title. Prouse finished sixth at the Pac-12 Championships after setting the pace for much of the race. It's the first All-Pac-12 honor for both Neale and Prouse.
Washington's women's and men's teams will both be racing next at West Regionals, set for Sacramento on Nov. 11.
