
One Duo Remains In Main Draw At ITA Regional

PALO ALTO, Calif. – After the second day of play at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regionals, the Washington women's tennis team still holds a spot in the main draw, as Stacey Fung and Tami Grende advanced to the round of 16 in doubles.
In singles, five Huskies made it to today's round of 32, with junior Alexis Prokopuik and sophomore Fung advancing to the round of 16. The transfer, Prokopuik, grabbed a 6-3, 6-3 win over San Jose State's Tamara Culibrk, while Fung defeated Alexandra Bourguignon of Gonzaga 6-1, 6-0.
In the second round of singles played today, and final 16 remaining players, Prokopuik faced a tough challenge in No. 92 Caroline Lampl of Stanford but fell 6-1, 6-4. Fung matched up with No. 51 Caroline Doyle of Stanford and picked up the first set 6-4, but ultimately fell by a final line of 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
One round of doubles was played today, with Fung and Grende defeating Fresno State's Katerina Stoukalova and Emma Wilson 8-4. Nour Abbes and Miki Kobayashi dropped a tough one in their first match of the tournament, falling 8-5 to Emily Maxfield and Gen McCloskey of San Francisco.
The lone Huskies in the main draw of Fung and Grende will face Oregon's Julia Eshet and Marlou Kluiving at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning, with a chance to make the afternoon's quarterfinals match at 2 p.m.
