UW Puts Up A Big First Day At ITA Northwest Regional

PALO ALTO, Calif. – In their first day of action at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional the Washington women's tennis team had a successful showing, with a big day in both singles and doubles, clinching six spots in the remaining 32 for singles, and two duos remaining in doubles.
In the opening round of singles, seven out of eight Huskies won their matches, with the lone defeat coming in a fantastic effort by sophomore Tami Grende against the seventh ranked Maegan Manasse of Cal. In the second round five of the seven remaining Dawgs advanced to tomorrow's round of 32, with wins coming from Alexis Prokopuik, Stacey Fung, Nour Abbes, Katarina Kopcalic and Kenadi Hance.
To open up doubles, Fung and Grende advanced to tomorrow's second round by defeating Michelle Lui and Madison Maloney of Seattle 8-4. No. 13 Abbes and Kobayashi received a first round bye today, with the remaining two Husky duos falling in their matches.
