Huskies Move Up Again To No. 2
October 18, 2016 | Cross Country
SEATTLE - Coming off its big victory at the Wisconsin Invitational, the Husky women's cross country team rose in the national poll once again, getting the No. 2 spot in today's USTFCCCA Coaches Poll. It's the highest ranking for the Dawgs since they last held the No. 1 ranking in the 2012 season. The men's squad held strong in the rankings at No. 25.
The Huskies rolled to the win at Wisconsin against a field that included 18 of the top-30 ranked teams in the country, including the previous No. 1 and No. 3 teams. In a field of more than 200 runners, the Huskies had their entire seven finish in the top-50, led by Amy-Eloise Neale in fourth-place and Charlotte Prouse in fifth.
Washington moved from fourth up to No. 2, and received four of the 12 first-place votes. The other eight votes went to new No. 1 team Colorado, which did not run in Wisconsin but won the Pre-National meet in Terre Haute, Indiana. The Huskies and Buffs will see each other for the first time at the Pac-12 Championships on Oct.28.
The women's team was ranked No. 1 in 2012, 2009, and 2008, and was as high as No. 2 in 2011, and No. 3 in 2010.
