SEATTLE -- The University of Washington men's golf team climbed two places into a tie for sixth with San Diego State at 22-under 830 after recording a final-round 277 at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational. Senior Corey Pereira paced the Huskies, completing the 54-hole tournament with a 9-under 204, posting three rounds below par.
The Cameron Park, Calif. native was Washington's top finisher for the third time this fall. After a stellar first round at Meadow Club in which he carded a 64 (-7), the lowest of his career, Pereira shot 1-under 70 to match his second round score in the final day of competition. Pereira's 15 birdies in the tournament were tied for ninth-most overall in a 78-player field.
Arizona State (-31) ended Cal's seven-year reign of the tournament, while Oregon State (-25) took second and Saint Mary's and North Carolina State (-24) tied for third, followed by fifth-place Pepperdine (-23).
Junior Frank Garber and freshman Sam Warkentin improved their standing on the individual leaderboard from the previous day, both moving into a tie for 16th with a combined 6-under 207 after firing solid final-rounds of 67 and 69, respectively. The pair were just one stroke short of placing inside the top 15
After posting a 68 in the second round, junior Jordan Lu carded 1-over 72 in the final round to tie for 40th place with an even-par tournament performance.
Rounding out the Husky rotation was Henry Lee who landed in the 54th spot at 3-over 216 on the heels of a final-round 73. The freshman carded the first Husky eagle this fall on the par-4 third hole.
Next up, Washington will travel to Napa, Calif. on Nov. 7-9 to compete in the Gifford Collegiate, hosted by UCLA.
