GymDawgs Get Road Win Over ASU
January 19, 2016 | Gymnastics
TEMPE, Ariz. – UW gymnastics enjoyed a successful night at Wells Fargo Arena, as the GymDawgs improved their scores in all four events and finished with a 194.650 to beat Arizona State, led by Allison Northey's second all-around title of the season.
“We didn't help ourselves early in the lineup in a couple events, but to be able to fight and come back and do some good things showed a lot of growth,” UW head coach Joanne Bowers said. “To improve our scores on all four events and improve our overall score by more than a point, on the road – those were all positives that we can build on. We just need to keep working and keep improving.”
Northey and fellow captain Kaitlyn Duranczyk tied for first on bars. Northey also tied for first on beam with teammate Joslyn Goings. Sophomore Hailey Burleson took second on vault and Alex Yacalis tied for third with Northey. Zoey Schaefer and Faith Morrison tied for second on floor to round out the GymDawgs' top-3 event finishers for the meet.
“We did a good job as a team putting a full meet together. We had some adversity but we fought back and showed what we were made of,” Duranczyk said. “We were really motivated in the gym this week and we carried that over into the competition.”
