Gibson, Struzyna Advance To Semis At Sr. Worlds
September 01, 2015 | Men's Rowing
AIGUEBELETTE, France – UW graduates Rob Gibson and Hans Struzyna each advanced with their respective boats to event semifinals after competing in Tuesday's repechage at the Senior World Championships.
Representing Canada, Gibson competed in the repechage heats of the men's quadruple sculls. The Canadians got off to a good start and settled into a good rhythm through the middle of the course and held in first place at three-quarters through the race in a tightly packed field, as four of the five boats were within on second of each other.
Gibson and the Canadians ended in third place, just three-tenths of a second behind first-place Great Britain. Along with second place Ukraine, all three crews advance to Thursday's semifinal.
Struzyna rowed with the U.S. in the men's quadruple sculls repechage heats, as the Americans finished in third place to advance to Thursday's semifinal along with Italy and Estonia.
A number of Huskies will compete on Wednesday, Sep. 2, with Sam Dommer, Megan Kalmoe and Viktor Pivac all racing in repechage heats, and Patricia Obee racing in the women's lightweight double sculls quarterfinals. Adrienne Martelli will see her first action at the 2015 Senior Worlds, representing the U.S. in the coxless women's four.
