SAN FRANCISCO -- Washington alum C.J. Klaas was honored by the Pac-12 on Tuesday, being named to the 23-member All-Century Team as announced by the conference offices.
The former Husky was named as a reserve midfielder, one of just seven midfielders on the squad. Klaas played for the Dawgs from 2001-04 and was the 2004 Pac-12 Player of the Year and the only Husky to ever be named a two-time First Team All-American, those honors coming in 2003 and '04.
Klaas was also the 2001 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and a three-time All-Pac-12 First Team honoree and as well as a Second Team honoree as a freshman. He started all 69 games he played in purple and gold, ammassing 10 goals and 21 assists.
Klaas was drafted in the third round of the MLS Draft in 2005 by San Jose, but did not sign, instead finishing his degree at Washington. He then went on to play for the Seattle Sounders, then of the USL for two seasons.
Klaas was a team captain for the Huskies and led the Dawgs to two NCAA Tournaments, coming in 2001 and 2003. His 2003 team was one of the best in school history, earning a bye in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and then defeating Portland 1-0 in the second round to advance to the first Sweet 16 in school history.
That Sweet 16 run remained the only in school history until 2013 when the Huskies made their first Round of Eight and then another Sweet 16 run in 2014.
Klaas joins a group of 23 Pac-12 soccer players that span five decades on the All-Century Team. Brad Friedel, the former UCLA goalkeeper was named the Player of the Century in the Pac-12, while current Sounders and former UCLA coach Sigi Schmid was named the Coach of the Century.
