HUTCHINSON, Kansas -- The first day of the NCAA Championships never got started for No. 8 Washington. Heavy rains caused a series of delays as only the teams with early tee times were able to finish a handful of holes.
The Dawgs were scheduled for the last tee times and had their entire round suspended by rain. Play will resume on Saturday beginning at 5 a.m., PT, as the teams will play as many holes as possible on what will be a long day at Prairie Dunes.
No. 40 Oregon has the early lead at 3-under, but all of the top-ranked teams were scheduled in the afternoon and did not tee off.
In all, there were three weather delays totaling 8 hours, 10 minutes. The first round was suspended at 5:45 p.m. local time.
The stroke play of the NCAA Championships is scheduled for 54 holes ending Sunday with the individual title being contested on Monday for the top-40 players. For now, no changes to the format have been announced.
