SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Kasen Williams is tired of looking at his senior season as a series of “lasts.”
From his last home game to his final Apple Cup, the receiver refuses to look at Friday's TicketCity Cactus Bowl matchup with Oklahoma State as the end of his college career.
“This year you have so many lasts,” Williams said. “I'm just over it. I'm over everything being the last. I'm just going to take it all in, enjoy it and ball out in the game.”
When the Huskies took the field Sunday for their first practice in Arizona, Williams told a teammate he was excited to be back on the field after Christmas break. He has spent the past three days turning that enthusiasm into productive practices.
He is determined to make his final game in purple and gold a memorable one.
“I've got a pretty good package in this week and I just want to show up on the field now,” Williams said.
With 15 catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns on the season, Williams spent much of the season working toward regaining the form he showed before suffering a devastating injury last season.
As he prepares for the game against the Cowboys, Williams said he has regained his confidence.
“It's nice, because everything is starting to click,” Williams said. “I feel like I've progressed a lot mentally. It's nice, because I'm starting to see the reward for my patience. To have everybody out here with me, and have all my guys share that it's been nice.”
Like Williams, DiAndre Campbell refuses to look at his next game as another “last.”
“There have been a lot of lasts,” he said. “I can definitely feel what Kasen is talking about. I just want to leave it all out there because I've had that lasts mentality for so long I've had enough lasts. Let me just do what I need to do.”
Campbell has hauled in 24 passes for 231 yards and a touchdown over 13 games. His mentality for this week's bowl game remains unchanged from the rest of the season. He simply wants to “have fun and take it all in.”
“The end of this road is almost there, but I'm not done yet,” he said. “I've still got work to do and I'm enjoying every bit of it.”
