Shelton, Kikaha, Eldrenkamp Earn Academic Honors
December 01, 2014 | Football
Led by three-time, first-team honoree Danny Shelton, three Washington football players earned a spot on the Academic All-Pac-12 football team while two others were named to the second team and two more earned honorable mention.
Joining Shelton, a senior nose tackle from Auburn, Wash., on the first team were senior buck linebacker Hau'oli Kikaha (Laie, Hawai'i) and sophomore offensive lineman Jake Eldrenkamp (Bellevue, Wash.)
Junior guard Siosifa Tufunga (Long Beach, Calif.) and sophomore safety Trevor Walker (Arlington, Texas) made the second team while sophomore quarterback Jeff Lindquist and senior linebacker John Timu received honorable mention.
Earlier this fall, Shelton and Kikaha were both named Academic All-District VIII, making them both eligible for Academic All-America. Shelton, who was named to the team for the third season in a row, boasts a 3.54 GPA in anthropology. He spent the fall teaching a first-year class at the UW.
Kikaha, who was on the first team last season as well, is an American ethnic studies major with a 3.51 GPA. Along with his academic success, he's also the nation's leader in sacks and is a finalist for the Butkus, Lombardi, Lott Impact and Polynesian Player of the Year awards.
Eldrenkamp has played in every game this season either on the PAT/field goal team or as a reserve offensive tackle, or both. A business administration major, he has a 3.65 grade point average.
Tufunga, who was an honorable mention selection a year ago, made the second team in 2014. He has played in every game this season and has started four at guard. He's an American ethnic studies major with a 3.31 GPA.
Walker played in the first eight games of this season, starting two of them at safety, before a season-ending injury vs. Arizona State. He has a 3.48 grade point average as a pre-arts & sciences major.
