Three Doubles Pairs Advance on First Day of SDSU Fall Invite

SAN DIEGO – The University of Washington women's tennis team advanced three doubles pairs on the first day of the San Diego State Fall Invite II on Friday down in southern California. Four singles also earned a spot on the winning side of the bracket.
UW's duo of Grace Ysiodra and Angela Chen battled it out for an 8-5 win over UC Irvine twins Ali and Kat Facey in the red doubles bracket. Riko Shimizu and Julija Lukac also pulled out a tough victory as they edged Anna Romeka and Julia Norlin, 8-6 while Natalie Allen and Sophia Bott earned an 8-4 win in the gold bracket.
The Huskies also advanced four singles led by senior Julija Lukac who posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over Arisha Ladhani of UC-Irvine. Shimizu continued her strong play on the day with her 6-2, 6-4 defeat over Duda Santos of UTEP.
Angela Chen's singles victory was slightly tougher as she battled it out with Natasha Rizvi of Air Force for a 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 win. Also moving on to the winner's side of the brackets was senior Capucine Gregoire who defeated Janine Koleta of San Diego, 6-2, 6-3.
