2007: Strong start to senior cross country season was derailed by injury towards season's end ... still ran in UW's top-five at all four meets in which he competed, including running second on the team (64th overall) at Pre-Nationals ... third among Huskies at Bill Dellinger; 33rd overall ... began the season with an eighth-place finish at the Sundodger ... fought through injuries to place 47th at Pac-10 Championships, fifth on the team, in final race.
2006-07: Was UW's No. 3 finisher at all three postseason meets, including a 12th-place team effort at NCAAs ... was 31st overall at Pac-10s, 39th at Regionals and 86th at NCAAs ... also ran in UW's top-five at the Pre-National, Dellinger and Sundodger meets, including a team-leading sixth-place finish at the latter ... named Most Inspirational by his teammates after the season ... earned second straight All-American honor as part of UW's DMR that finished fifth at the NCAA Championships ... was UW's top steepler, qualifying for the NCAA Championships where he was sadly disqualified in the semifinals for allegedly impeding another runner ... steeple time of 8:48.93 at Regionals was 10th-fastest mark in UW history ... UW's top runner at 1500m with season-best 3:47.50 coming at the ASU Clif Bar Invitational ... qualified for Regionals in 1500m but chose to focus on steeple ... ran UW's second-fastest mile time of the season and fourth-best in school history in his one and only race, clocking 4:01.33 at the UW Last Chance Qualifier ... also ran 3000m and 5000m during track season, placing 20th in the 5000m at the Pac-10 Championships ... earned Academic All-Pac-10 honorable mention in both track and cross country.
2005-06: Ran at less than full strength throughout the fall season ... co-captained UW to its second NCAA XC appearance in three years ... ran three times in the fall, including a 60th-place finish at Pac-10s, before shutting down for the season ... earned first-career All-America honor, leading UW's DMR to fifth at the NCAA Indoor meet ... also ran on UW record-equaling DMR at Notre Dame in March ... was fourth in the mile and DMR at MPSFs ... mile time (4:03.76) ranked fourth in UW history ... was 10th in 1500m final at Pac-10s, and 18th at Regionals ... earned Academic All-Pac-10 honorable mention for both sports.
2004-05: Redshirted the season with plantar fasciitis ... ran unattached four times outdoors, including a win in the 1500m at the Ken Shannon Invite.
2003-04: The only freshman to compete in every varsity race during the 2003 fall season ... helped UW reach NCAAs for the first time since 1993 ... was UW's No. 4 runner at NCAAs ... was third for UW, 35th overall, at Regionals, his first-ever 10K race ... ran 30th at Pac-10s to lead a third-place team finish ... debuted 13th at Sundodger ... had outstanding debut season on the track ... set UW freshman 1500m record (since broken) of 3:44.91 at Oregon ... despite an injury, was one of four Huskies to qualify for the Pac-10 1500m final, placing eighth ... also qualified for Pac-10s in the steeple ... ran 15th in the 1500m prelims at Regionals ... of seven indoor races in 2004, six ranked among the top-10 all-time at UW ... went 8:02.82 in first collegiate 3K, fastest ever by a Husky frosh and UW's third-fastest all-time ... ran 4:07.15 for a mile in first college race, then UW's ninth-best ever ... ran the 800m leg on four of the 10 fastest DMRs ever at UW, including record 9:35.35 effort at the Last Chance Qualifier (9:35.35).
High School and Personal: Parents are Kathy and Dave ... has an older sister, Kelsie ... aunt, Marjan (Moulijn) Howard, competed for UW's track and cross country teams in the 1970s ... named Gatorade's 2003 Track and Field Athlete of the Year for the state of Washington ... also earned athlete of the year honors from the Tacoma News-Tribune and Seattle P-I ... the 2002 class 4A state cross country champion ... logged one of the top prep track seasons in state history in 2003 ... set a state record, and ranked third nationally, with a time of 8:48.04 for 3200m at the Arcadia Invite ... won the state title at 1600m in a meet-record 4:05.09, just one second off the state record ... was defeated just once during the 2003 prep season, taking third in the 800m at state ... was second in the mile at the 2003 Golden West Games ... as a junior, took third at state in both the 1600m and 3200m, and was fifth in the mile at Golden West ... fourth in the 1600m at state in 2001 ... earned a 3.7 GPA.
