"It's just been a disappointing performance from our team so far," said Husky Coach Matt Thurmond, who led his squad to the 2009 and 2010 conference championships. "We're not getting five decent scores and our top players haven't played as well as they should. So, all-around it's just been a disappointing week."
Fifteen individuals are under par, led by a pair of Oregon teammates at -10: Daniel Miernicki and Eugene Wong. Stanford's Andrew Yung is third at -9, while a pair of UCLA teammates are fourth and fifth, Patrick Cantlay (-6) and Pedro Figueredo (-5), respectively.
Chris Williams leads the Husky contingent at 3-under (213) overall and is tied for 11th. He shot 1-under 71 on Saturday. The Ben Hogan Award semifinalist had a consistent round on Saturday that was highlighted by back-to-back birdies down the stretch on No. 7 and No. 8 (UW started the round on the 10th hole).
Cheng-Tsung Pan, also a Ben Hogan Award semifinalist, equaled Williams with a 71 on Saturday. He had two birdies and one bogey to go with 15 pars. He is +1 overall and is tied for 18th.
Trevor Simsby shot 78 on Saturday but maintains his position as third amongst Huskies. He is tied for 41st at +7.
Charlie Hughes shot 1-over 73 on Saturday. He was 3-over after four holes before rebounding bogey-free over the final 14 holes, including two birdies. Hughes is tied for 45th at +8 overall.
Ty Chambers shot 76 and +10 overall. He is tied for 48th.
Larry Iverson was 8-over on Saturday and is tied for 67th at +21 overall.
Despite his team being out of contention for a championship, Thurmond is looking for some positive momentum as his team head's to the NCAA regionals in May.
"Hopefully we'll be able to salvage something tomorrow," he said. "They are still competing hard and even in the last two rounds the guys have managed some birdies on the final holes and hung in there pretty well. They are fighting with all they got. Hopefully we'll figure some stuff out."
Sunday's final round gets going at 8:00 a.m. with teams teeing off on both No. 1 and No. 10. Washington will be paired with Washington State and Colorado and tee off from No. 10 starting at 8:00 am.
