DULUTH, Ga. - Sophomore Aliza Vaccher (Eugene, Ore.) represented the University of Washington very well at the NCAA Gymnastics Championships Friday night in Duluth, Ga. Vaccher finished 20th in session 2 in the all-around with a 38.925.
She rotated with Oregon State and started with a bye before competing on floor. Vaccher made an uncharacteristic mistake on floor, stepping out of bounds on her first tumbling pass, scoring a 9.475.
"Aliza did a great job," said head coach Joanne Bowers. "She started off on floor so powerful and flew out of bounds on the first pass but then settled down and hit her next three events well. We are very proud of her."
Vaccher rebounded on the final three events, posting solid scores. She started her comeback on vault with a 9.850. On bars and beam she scored a 9.800. Her best individual event performance was T-17th on vault.
"I wasn't perfect but I'm glad that I could come out her and represent Washington," Vaccher said after the meet.
The top eight individuals from each event in each session plus ties, advance to Sunday's individual event finals. The top three teams from each session advance to Saturday's team finals. Three Pac-12 schools, UCLA, Utah and Stanford will compete Saturday after finishing 1-3 in session one. Alabama won session two and Florida and Georgia will join them in the final six.
The season is now over for all UW gymnasts.
