No. 8 OSU Hands No. 21 Huskies First Home Loss

SEATTLE - The No. 21 Huskies couldn't quite pull the upset for the second-straight week, falling to No. 8 Oregon State in a dual meet Friday night, 195.975-194.725.
There were several highlights for the Dawgs in the meet as the Huskies hit all six routines on the vault and the floor. UW went 48.850 on vault, 48.675 on bars, 48.25 on beam and 48.975 on floor.
"Everybody did their stuff, it was great, they were looking forward to the meet, and that's what I like to see," said head coach Joanne Bowers. "I think we're on the right path. Obviously, we just need to click on all cylinders with everybody. We hit our halfway mark next weekend in Nebraska, so hopefully we won't have to count a fall. I'm focusing in on the things we can control; that's my mantra."
Sophomore Aliza Vaccher (Eugene, Ore.) led the Huskies in the all-around, placing fourth with a 38.900. Senior Ruby Engreitz (Kirkland, Wash.) also competed in the all-around, finishing fifth with a 38.525.
OSU took the top three spots in the all-around as Makayla Stambaugh posted a 39.325, Leslie Mak went 39.300 and Brittany Harris ended with a 39.050.
On the individual events, the Huskies had two gymnasts tie for first as junior Lauren Rogers (Plains, Pa.) tied Stambaugh on vault with a 9.850 and Engreitz tied Stambaugh on floor with a 9.850.
Senior Hatsune Akaogi (Cupertino, Calif.), junior Paige Bixler (Rowlett, Texas) and freshman McKenzie Fechter (Mequon, Wis.) were in a six-way tie for third on the beam posting 9.775's. That score was a new season-high for Akaogi.
"It definitely feels good to have another competition under my belt and to try and help the team out as much as I can," said Fechter. "It feels really good that way. We had mistakes tonight but I know we're going to bounce back. I'm really proud of our team for sticking in there. Even though we had problems, we came back and fought the best we could."
Rogers and Fechter were in a three-way tie for third on the floor, posting scores of 9.825.
"Lauren's just a little stud," said Bowers. "We should've had Lauren in the beam lineup, she would've had a great all-around [score]. She exhibitioned on beam just because we've been having so many girls do so well on beam. It's the best problem we've ever had - we have eight girls and we don't know who to count as the six to make the lineup. The exhibition routines enable them to earn their spot for the next week."
Freshman Madison Podlucky (Redmond, Wash.) set a new career-high on vault with a 9.725.
Also setting season-highs were Bixler on floor (9.725) and senior Amanda Cline (Aurora, Colo.) on bars (9.675) and floor (9.700).
The Huskies will compete in their first Quad Meet of the season at Nebraska on Feb. 11 at 4 p.m. The meet also features Michigan and Southern Utah.
