Huskies Fourth After First Day In California

STANFORD, Calif. - The Husky women's golf team shot a 20-over 304 in the first round of the Peg Barnard Invitational and is fourth out of 12 teams competing at Stanford Golf Course.
California leads the two day, 36-hole tournament after shooting 11-over 295. Fresno State is second after shooting +17. Stanford is third, one stroke ahead of the Huskies. San Jose State is fifth at +22, two strokes behind Washington.
"I don't know if rusty is the right word," Husky head coach Mary Lou Mulflur said following the round, "but we were just not quite sharp in our first round back this spring.
"We've had a lot of success on this golf course, so I think we will be alright tomorrow."
Golfstat.com's ninth ranked Huskies were led by freshman Cyd Okino, who shot a 2-over 73 in the teams' first spring tournament. Okino, out of Honolulu, Hawai'i's Punahou High School, is fourth out of 70 competitors.

Okino had a birdie on the third hole and then three bogeys during a stretch between No.'s 9-13. Besides that, it was all pars for the first year player -- the cleanest round among the Huskies.
Fellow freshman SooBin Kim is also among the top-10 on the leaderboard after Saturday's first round at the 6,092-yard, par-71 golf course. The Canadian is tied for 8th at 4-over 75 after a quick start of 2-under through 11 holes, disappeared after going 5-over par on the last four holes.
Junior Brittany Tallman and sophomore Kelli Bowers each shot 7-over 78 and are tied for 27th. Freshman Jennifer Yang shot an uncharacteristic 10-over 81 and is tied for 41st.
Fresno State's Christine Uhalde is the only competitor under par after a first round 70. California's Emily Childs and Stanford's Sally Watson are tied for second after shooting 71. Okino is alone in fourth, two strokes behind Childs and Watson.
