BREMERTON, Wash. -- With standing water on the fairways and greens at Gold Mountain Golf Course, the first two rounds of the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational were canceled on Monday.
Teams planned on playing 36 holes today on the Olympic and Cascade courses. Instead, over an inch of rain fell in less than 12 hours and the 16 teams and 33 individual competitors sat through six hours or rain delays before officials called off play.
The tournament has been shortened to 18 holes on Tuesday. Only six teams -- Washington, Washington State, Pepperdine, Gonzaga, Fresno State and Santa Clara -- will play tomorrow.
The other 10 teams will withdraw and be eligible to add a two-day tournament to their schedule for the 2011-12 season.
Tomorrow's action is slated to begin at 8:00 a.m. PT, with teams teeing off from the No. 1 hole and individual competitors starting on No. 10.
For the Huskies, the tournament is the season-opener in what is expected to be a stellar season. Washington's five-man team lineup consists of no seniors and is led by recent Walker Cup member Chris Williams (Jr.).
Also playing are: Charlie Hughes (Jr.), Cheng-Tsung Pan (Fr.), Cory McElyea (Soph.) and Trevor Simsby (Soph.). Ty Chambers (Sr.), Gerrit Chambers (Soph.), Larry Iverson (Jr.) and Yifan Liu (Fr.) are competing as individuals.
