AUGUSTA, Ga. -- About two miles down the road from Augusta National Golf Course, site of next weekend's Masters, the Huskies and 16 other college teams are competing in the Inspirity Augusta State Invitational this weekend at Forest Hills Golf Club. The 17 teams played 36 holes on Saturday and Washington is tied for 14th on the leaderboard after day one action.
The Huskies are +30 overall after they shot a 5-over 293 in the morning round and were 25-over 313 in the afternoon before darkness set in at the golf course.
Sophomores Charlie Hughes and Chris Williams led the Huskies' effort on Saturday and are each tied for 38th after entering the clubhouse at +4. Williams shot a 71 and 77, while Hughes shot a 72 and 76 at the par-72, 7,029-yard golf course.
Senior Tze Huang Choo and freshman Cory McElyea were at +10 overall. The pair each shot a 75 in the morning and 79 in the second round.
Ty Chambers was +15 after he shot a 78 and 81.
Top-ranked Oklahoma State is -20 and leads Tennessee by 8 strokes. They are the two teams that are under par.
Oklahoma State's Kevin Tway is 11-under after a sparkling 64 in the first round and a solid 69 in the second round. He holds a two stroke lead Danny Keddie of Tennessee.
