No. 21 Huskies Net Key Road Win At TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas - Back on the road for the sixth out of the past seven weeks, the 21st-ranked Husky women's tennis team stepped up with a 4-3 win over 52nd-ranked TCU today to halt a three-match losing skid, all of which came against Top-20 teams. Washington took the doubles point and had wins at the top two singles spots plus the No. 4 spot to earn its eighth win this year over a ranked opponent.
Doubles play has been a tough go for UW, apart from the undefeated No. 1 team of Venise Chan and Denise Dy, but today UW swept doubles for just the second time all season. Chan and Dy shook off an early 3-0 deficit to roll to eight of the next nine games and beat Federica Denti and Katarina Tuohimaa, 8-4. Samantha Smith and Andjela Nemcevic then clinched the point with an 8-6 win over Mastromario and Olivia Smith of TCU. UW then got the win at No. 3 doubles, when the TCU tandem retired down 3-7 to Aleksandra Krsljanin and Adrijana Pavlovic.
Sixth-ranked junior Denise Dy wasted little time improving to 11-0 in dual play with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Tuohimaa at No. 1 singles. It's the 70th career singles win of her career. Nemcevic then made it 3-0 Huskies with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles over Mastromarino.
Chan, ranked 26th nationally, earned the clinching point with a straight set win at second singles over Denti. The senior led 6-3, 4-2 when Denti retired due to injury. That made it 4-0 Huskies.
TCU closed the gap after Washington had clinched. Olivia Smith defeated junior Samantha Smith, 6-0, 6-3 at third singles. Krsljanin lost a 6-4, 6-1 decision to Idunn Hertzberg at No. 5, and junior Adrijana Pavlovic fell to Shalini Sahoo, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 6.
Washington (8-4) has another big road test on tap for Saturday, when it visits 30th-ranked Texas A&M for a dual at 11 a.m. Pacific
