
No. 10/11 Huskies Win Two At San Diego Classic

SAN DIEGO - The rain finally stopped in San Diego so the San Diego Classic could continue on Sunday and the No. 10/11 Huskies picked up two wins on the day. Washington improves to 8-0 on the season with an 8-1 win over Northwestern and a 6-3 victory over No. 22 San Diego State.
Game One - No. 10/11 Washington 8, Northwestern 1

The Huskies improved to 9-3 all-time vs. Northwestern with an 8-1 win over the Wildcats in six innings. The two teams only played six innings due to Northwestern having to catch a flight.
Junior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.) led off the first with a single to left. After a walk to senior Jenn Salling (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) the two converted a double steal. Junior Niki Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) hit a three-run home run to left, her fourth of the year.
Sophomore Baily Harris (Longview, Wash.) started the game in the circle for UW allowing just two hits. Freshman Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) entered in relief with the bases loaded and two outs and got a strikeout to end the inning. Inglesby struck out a season-high five and improved to 3-0 in the circle.
The Huskies got three more runs in the third which started with a Pohlman single. Williams reaches on a fielder's choice and they both scored on a double to left center by sophomore catcher Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.). Wright scores on a bunt single by freshman Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.).
Northwestern got a run in the fourth with two outs as Kelly Quinn scored on a triple by Robin Thompson.
In the fifth, Pohlman doubled to left center to drive in the seventh run and freshman Marki Creger-Zier scored the final run on a hit by Williams.
The Huskies had 10 hits off of two Wildcat pitchers. Jessica Smith got the loss, falling to 0-3. Pohlman led the Huskies with four hits.
Game Two - No. 10/11 Washington 6, No. 22 San Diego State 3

The Aztecs took an early lead in the first, scoring a run off of a single by Kamerin May off of the Husky starter Harris. Harris pitched 2.0 innings.
Senior Morgan Stuart (Riverside, Calif.) walked to lead off the second for UW. Fellow senior Ashley Tuiasosopo (Woodinville, Wash.) laid down a sacrifice bunt to get Stuart to second. Hayward reached first on error and Stuart went to third. Stuart scored on an error by the SDSU shortstop to tie the game.
Williams walked with one out in the third and Wright singled to center. A single to right center by Tuiasosopo drove in Williams from second for the 2-1 Husky lead.
Junior Jenna Clifton (Glendale, Ariz.) entered in relief for Harris in the third inning and in the fourth, she allowed a two-run home run to Lorena Klopp as the Aztecs took re-took the lead, 3-2.
To lead off the fifth, Williams and Wright both reached first base safely on errors by the third baseman. Sophomore Maggie Wagner (Woodinville, Wash.) entered to pinch run for Wright at first. A three-run home run for Stuart to left center gave the Huskies a 5-3 lead. It was the fourth home run of the season for Stuart.
Williams hit her second home run of the game, this time a solo shot to left to lead off the seventh.
The Huskies head to the Cathedral City Classic next weekend for five games.
