SAN MARTIN, Calif. -- The Husky men's golf team struggled in second round action of the fall finale Gifford Collegiate at CordeValle Golf Club on Tuesday and dropped one spot in the standings to fifth as they head to Wednesday's final round.
Washington, ranked third in the latest Golfstat.com rankings, combined to shoot 12-over 367 and sits at +16 overall. They trail second-ranked Oregon by one stroke heading into final round action of the 54-hole invitational.
USC leads the field by 12 strokes after ending Tuesday at -13 overall. UCLA is the only other team under par at 1-under. Virginia is third at +12, followed by the Ducks and Huskies.
For a second-straight day, the Huskies -- competing in a play-six, count-five formatted tournament -- struggled to find their rhythm. The five counting scorers went 5-over on the front and 7-over on the back.
"It was a tough day," said UW Coach Matt Thurmond. "The greens were firm and the winds were a factor all day long. It was so easy to make a big number on the course, and that is what we did at times."
