CORVALLIS, Ore. - The UW men's soccer team kept its playoff hopes alive with a 1-0 victory at Oregon State on Friday night. UW finishes the regular season with an 11-6-1 record and 5-5-0 mark in the Pac-10. The 11 regular season wins are the most by a Husky team since the 2006 team had 12 and the five conference wins are the most since 2003.
"I'm really proud of the way the team played," said head coach Dean Wurzberger. "It is a difficult place to play and we were pleased overall, it was a team win. We knew our margin of error was zero and our back line was outstanding and got another shutout. Dylan (Tucker-Gangnes) and Casey (McCool) were very strong offensively and defensively and we needed everyone to do their part. We are optimistic that we will get an at-large bid and we are looking forward to finding out on Monday."
The game was even the entire 90 minutes as UW won the shots 10-9 but OSU had six on goal to five for the Huskies. The Huskies won the corners 7-1 and the fouls were 8-6, UW.
A hand ball in the box on the Beavers gave the Huskies a penalty kick as sophomore Tucker-Gangnes (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) scored what would be the game-winning goal in the 28th minute. It was his second goal of the season.
Junior Brent Richards (Camas, Wash.) led the way with five shots, two on goal.
Freshman Spencer Richey (Seattle, Wash.) picked up the win in goal, making six saves in his sixth shutout.
Oregon State falls to 6-11-0 and 0-2 this season vs. UW.
The Huskies will now wait to see if they are selected for the 48-team NCAA Tournament during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday at 1:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
