NCAA Quarterfinal - Post-Round Quotes
Washington Head Coach Matt Thurmond
"We think about all the moral victories at some point down the road, but not today. We did not get the job done. We did not hit the big shots we needed to hit. The other team did and, we feel, the better team didn't win today. Darren (Wallace) and Nick (Taylor) were awesome today. They came out from the very beginning and neither of their opponents felt like they had a chance to beat them. That is what you have to do in match play. You have to get a guy down and make sure he stays down. They did a great job with that. (The match play format) was awesome. It is the best way for college golf to be played. Today, you had Washington versus Arkansas and that made every shot really interesting. I am looking forward to practicing it more as a team and maybe playing more tournaments in the future. We have to get a lot better at it. It is a different mentality than stroke play. It is a different toughness that is required and we need to get tougher."
Washington Junior Darren Wallace
"I thought I played pretty well today. I got off to a good start, made birdie on the first hole and just played solid from there on in. I really didn't make any mistakes or leave any openings for my opponent to get back into the match. As a team overall, we are pretty disappointed with the finish. Nick (Taylor) and I both played pretty well, but we were all expecting to do better. To come up short is a really disappointing feeling."
