Washington head coach Heather Tarr
Her general feelings about the game: "I thought we had a great game plan tonight. Our offense gave us some opportunities. We didn't come through early as I would have liked, but our team is a very tough team and we found a way to pull through."
On winning the first game of the regionals: "Anytime that you can win the first game it puts you in a position to be a little looser and do some more things. But, one game means literally one game. We still have more to play."
On their scoring chances and getting runners on base: "We did have a lot of opportunities. It speaks to Texas and the job they did to hold us to two runs. I thought Meagan Denny did a great job of make the pitches when she needed to. When we put the ball in play it's only a matter of time before we break through."
Washington junior Ashlyn Watson
On her thoughts during her last at-bat: "I had two strikes and I was just telling myself to make contact. I was trying to get the bunt down but that didn't work out so well. From there I was just trying to hit the ball on the ground and hit it hard."
On getting 10 hits but scoring only two runs: "It can get frustrating, but in the back of my mind I knew that we could come through. Texas is a great team and it shows. They held us to one run until that point."
Washington junior Alicia Blake
On leading off the seventh inning with a single: "I knew if I get on to get it started then we had a chance. It's a `get on, move her over' type of thing."
On playing in the hot weather: "I think our team plays well in hot weather. I know I do personally. Today it wasn't overwhelming. We had a whole day yesterday to get used to it and to rest."
Her thoughts on if the game felt like the playoffs or a normal game: "We were talking about that as a team this morning. It doesn't feel like this is regionals. We were really relaxed and confident."
