WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 32nd-ranked Washington men's golf team shot 13-over 301 in the second and final round of the Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind., Sunday, to finish the tournament in 11th place at 36-over 612.
The Huskies improved their score by 10 strokes in the second round but weren't able to maintain their Top-6 standing from Saturday. UW finished 19 shots behind winner Michigan State (17-over 593). The tournament was shortened from 54 holes to 36 due to weather, with 18 holes played Saturday and 18 played Sunday.
Sophomore transfer Chris Killmer carded the low round of the tournament for UW, Sunday, shooting an even-par 72. Killmer tied for 15th with senior Alex Prugh, who both ended the event at 6-over 150. Prugh shot identical rounds of 3-over 75.
UW junior Zach Bixler shot 5-over 77 in the second round and finished the tournament tied for 43rd at 11-over 155. Freshman Joel Dahmen also shot 5-over 77 on Sunday, finishing in a tie for 64th at 15-over 169. Freshman Nick Taylor, who shot 8-over 80 for the second-straight day, tied for 68th at 16-over 160.
Michigan State's Ryan Brehm, the only player the finish the tournament under par, claimed medalist honors at 2-under 142.
Up next for Washington will be the U.S. Intercollegiate, April 14-15, hosted by Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif.
