FULLERTON, Calif.-- The 12th-ranked Washington softball team won its fourth game in the row Tuesday with a 3-1 victory over Utah. The win improves the Huskies' record to 22-7 on the season, while the Utes dip to 17-8-1.
Utah struck first in the second inning when Hailey Davenport took Danielle Lawrie's first offering and hit a home run over the left field wall.
Washington responded in the third when senior Dena Tyson belted a single up the middle to score two runs and give the Huskies the 2-1 lead. The hit scored All-American Ashley Charters and Marnie Koziol, who had reached base on a walk and fielder's choice.
UW scored an insurance run in the sixth with doubles by Tyson and Lauren Greer for the final 3-1 score.
Lawrie shut the Ute offense down in the top of the seventh, sitting Utah down in order. Lawrie improves to 13-3 on the season as she held the UT to one run on four hits and struck out 12. Meghan Dyer (12-5) took the loss as she gave up three runs on six hits and struck out eight.
Washington returns to Seattle tonight after a six-day, seven-game trip to California and will take the rest of the week off during Spring Break. The Huskies return to action March 30-April 1 when they host the Arizona schools to kick-off Pac-10 Conference action.
