Washington won its season opener for the first time since 2001, when the UW opened the season with a 23-18 win over Michigan at Husky Stadium.

The last time the Huskies rushed for 200 or more (or 300 or more, for that matter) in a game was in last season's win at Arizona, when they totaled 333 ground yards. The UW also surpassed 200 rush yards in the loss to Arizona State last year. Today, the Dawgs finished the game with 300 yards even.

Washington had two 100-yard rushers (Louis Rankin, 145; Isaiah Stanback, 102) in the same game for the first time since 2003, when Shelton Sampson (131) and Kenny James (104) passed the century mark vs. Oregon (Nov. 1, 2003).

Both Isaiah Stanback (102 yards rushing) and Louis Rankin (145 yards) set new career highs for rushing. Stanback's previous best was 96, last season at Arizona. Rankin's previous high was 115, last season vs. Idaho.

Louis Rankin's second-quarter touchdown, a 34-yard run, was just the second TD of his career. Kenny James' 21-yard touchdown near the end of the second quarter was the first receiving TD of his career.

Washington last scored 21 points in a half was in the 2004 UCLA game (Sept. 18, 2004), when the Dawgs posted 24 in the first quarter. The Huskies' highest first-half total all of last year was 17 points vs. USC.

Husky tight end Michael Gottlieb's fumble in the second quarter came at the end of his first career reception, which went for 24 yards prior to the mishap.

Two true freshmen saw action in today's game: fullback Paul Homer and linebacker Donald Butler. Butler saw action only on special teams, but Homer did play some fullback in addition to special teams. Other Huskies who saw action in their first career game: WR Marcel Reece, OLB E.J. Savannah, FS Jason Wells, LS Danny Morovick, OLB Linus Chou, DT Jovon O'Connor, OLB Trenton Tuiasosopo, C Juan Garcia, DE Daniel Te'o-Nesheim and OT Ben Ossai.

The Huskies had three players make their first career start on the offensive side of the ball and two on defense: C Juan Garcia, OT Ben Ossai and TE Michael Gottlieb on offense and DE Daniel Te'o-Nesheim and FS Jason Wells on defense.

The Huskies' game captains today were QB Isaiah Stanback, TB Kenny James, OG Stanley Daniels and SS C.J. Wallace.

San Jose State turned each of three Husky first-half turnovers into field goals, which meant that Spartans placekicker Jared Strubeck tied the school record for field goals in a game, with three. He already shared that school record, along with numerous others.

All three of UW punter Sean Douglas' three punts were downed inside the San Jose State 20-yard line. He averaged 45.7 yards per punt.
