Washington Gymnasts Sixth at Pac-10 Championships

Corvallis, Ore. - Stanford scored a season-high 197.100 and edged UCLA by .300 to win its second Pac-10 Championship in three years on Saturday night at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Ore. Washington was sixth at the meet finishing .025 better than California.
Stanford's Tabitha Yim scored 39.650 All-Around to win the meet and pace 10th-ranked Stanford's night. Second-place and 11th-ranked UCLA scored a 196.800, followed by 17th-ranked Oregon State (196.400), 9th-ranked Arizona State (193.900), 15th-ranked Arizona (193.750), Washington (192.750) and California (192.725).
Freshman Ashley Houghting (Welland, Ont./Northview Heights Secondary) was the only Husky to crack the top 10 in an event, tying for eighth on vault with a 9.850. Senior Kelly McDonald tied for 10th All-Around with a 39.050. McDonald was the Huskies' top finisher on beam, bars and floor placing 14th on the three events.
Oregon State freshman Tasha Smith of Auburn, Wash., won vault and floor to claim Pac-10 Championships.
At the conclusion of the meet, UCLA's Kate Richardson was named the Pac-10 Gymnast of the Year, while UCLA's Ariana Berlin and OSU's Jami Lanz were named Co-Freshmen of the Year. Stanford's Kristen Smyth and Arizona's John Spini were named Co-Coaches of the Year.
