Stanford, Calif. - The 12th-ranked Stanford Cardinal (10-2, 4-1) scored a 196.375, their second-highest total of the season, to defeat the Washington Husky gymnastics team (4-11, 2-7) at Burnham Pavilion on Friday night. Stanford swept the top three spots on vault, bars, beam and floor and took first and second on All-Around.
The Huskies were undermanned again, competing without freshman All-Arounder Ashley Houghting, the third-ranked vaulter in the nation. Houghting stayed home in Seattle nursing a back injury, along with five other injured Huskies. Chelsea Bakken, normally an All-Arounder for the Huskies was only able to compete on bars and beam for the Huskies to rest an ailing knee.
In their absence, freshman Kristen Omori competed All-Around for the first time this season and scored a 37.925. She finished third behind Natalie Foley (39.325) an Nicole Ourada (39.300).
The Huskies began their evening on bars and had to count two falls towards their team score of 46.075. Stanford scored a 49.275 and swept the top four individual places led by Tabitha Yim's 9.925. Kelly McDonald was the top Husky scoring a 9.800 and placing fifth.
Washington moved to vault where they scored 48 or better for the eighth-straight meet, totaling 48.325. Omori took third with a 9.875 to lead the Huskies. Darcee Schiller was fifth with a career-best equaling 9.800. Alex Pinchouk and Yim each scored a 9.925 to share first-place for Stanford.
Omori also led the Huskies on floor, scoring a 9.775 to tie for fourth-place. Ourada won floor for Stanford with a 9.900.
McDonald led the way for the Huskies on beam, scoring a 9.825 on her routine to tie for fourth. Foley won with a 9.900.
The Huskies return to the mat on Friday, March 3 in their last home meet at Bank of America Arena this season. Oregon State and Seattle Pacific will face the Huskies in the 7:00 p.m. three-team meet. It will mark the last Seattle appearance for senior Kelly McDonald.
