Stanford, CA - After four second-place finishes this season, the ninth-ranked Washington women's golf team ended the regular season on a high note by winning the Peg Barnard California Collegiate at the Stanford Golf Course. The Huskies shot 16-over 300 Sunday to capture the title by three strokes. Washington carded a two-day total of 587 while Washington State was second at 590. Host Stanford was third at 593.
The championship was the first by the Huskies since capturing the Bay Area Classic last February in San Jose. It marked the third time since 2000 that Washington has won the event.
Washington was led by junior All-American Paige Mackenzie who posted rounds of 71 and 72 to finish at 1-over 143 during the 36-hole event. Washington State's Kim Welch took medalist honors at 140. Mackenzie's finish was her best of the season. She had placed fourth at the Spartan Invitational in March. It marked the Mackenzie's fifth top-10 finish this year and the 16th in her career.
Freshman Kim Shin was sixth at 3-over 146 after shooting a 76 Sunday. It was the third time this season Shin has placed sixth in tournament play. It was her fifth top-10 performance this year.
Sophomore Courtney McCracken was 13th at 148 while Sung Ea Lee was 19th at 152. Amber Prange finished 30th at 155.
The tournament was Washington's final regular-season event. The Huskies compete at the Pac-10 Championships April 18-20 at Ruby Hills Country Club in Pleasanton, Calif.
