
Softball Drops To Florida State

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The fourth-ranked Washington softball team (13-3) dropped a 7-1 game to 11th-ranked Florida State this afternoon to complete pool play action at the NFCA Leadoff Classic.
The Seminoles out hit the Huskies six to two and took advantage of four UW errors.
FSU took the early lead when Lesley Palmer hit a three-run home run in the first inning. The hit scored Veronica Woodson and Jessica van der Linden who had reached base on walks.
Florida State scored runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings to make the score 7-0.
Washington showed some life in the bottom of the sixth inning when senior Courtney Jeffries led off with a home run over the centerfield fence. It was the first home run of the season for Jeffries and fourth of her career.
The Seminoles scored another run in the seventh inning with a solo home run by Beth Wade to earn the 7-1 victory.
Tia Bollinger (8-2) took the loss for Washington, giving up six hits while striking out nine.
FSU's van der Linden held UW to two hits and struck out 14.
Washington now plays the waiting game to see if it advances to the Gold or Silver Championship Bracket. The Huskies will play at either 4 or 6:30 p.m. tonight.
