
Softball Drops To Long Beach State

POWAY, Calif.- The fourth-ranked Washington softball team (10-2) lost a 1-0 ballgame to Long Beach State this afternoon to open the Campbell/Cartier Classic.
The Huskies tallied just four hits and stranded seven base runners against the 49ers.
Long Beach State scored the lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning on two hits and a UW error. Lauren Johnson hit a flare into shallow centerfield and Arleigh Thorp drew a walk to put runners on first a second with one out. Marcel Torres followed with a single up the middle and a high throw to third allowed Johnson to score.
Washington's best scoring opportunity came in the top of the sixth frame as it placed runners on first and third with one out. LBSU hurler Torres notched a strikeout and a ground out to end the threat.
Ashley Boek (4-1) took the loss as she scattered six hits and struck out four.
Washington continues tournament action this evening with an 8 p.m. game against host San Diego State.
