SEATTLE - Goals from second-half substitutions Kevin Forrest and Sean Giudice, who both scored shortly after entering the game at halftime, lifted the Washington men's soccer team to a 2-1 exhibition win over Seattle Pacific Saturday evening at Husky Soccer Field.
The game did not count towards either team's season record.
Forrest, a freshman from Edmonds, Wash., scored the first goal of the match, heading in a high looping pass from sophomore Jeff Hoover. The goal came at 50:26 into the match, a little more than five minutes after the intermission.
Just over two minutes later, Giudice, a senior from Davis, Calif., made it 2-0 when he accepted a pass from Evan Cummings and, from a difficult angle, slotted a slow, rolling shot just past the diving goalkeeper and just inside the right post.
SPU got back in the match with only 8:58 remaining. After Washington was called for a foul after a collision just outside of the penalty area, Micheal Morris unleashed a free kick that blasted through the UW wall, past the diving keeper and into the right-side netting of the goal.
Washington nearly made it 3-1 on a similar free kick from Casey Armstrong with about three minutes remaining, but SPU keeper James Ward made a spectacular save to keep the Huskies' would-be third goal out of the net.
Ward finished with four saves for the visiting Falcons while Husky goalkeeper Chris Eylander made three.
The UW opens the regular season next Saturday, Aug. 30, against UNLV at a tournament in Portland
