
Huskies Drop to 18th at NCAA Golf Regional

Tempe, AZ - The 20th ranked Washington women's golf team dropped back three places to 18th after 36 holes of play at the NCAA West Regional at Arizona State's Karsten Golf Club. The Huskies shot 318 on Friday for a two-day total of 629. Washington is 21 shots out of eight place at the tournament where the top eight teams advance to the NCAA Championships at Purdue.
Southern California continues to lead the field after carding a 14-over score of 302 during the second round for a 36-hole total of 581. The Trojans lead second-place Oklahoma State by nine strokes. Pepperdine is in third place at 596 while the host Sun Devils are fourth at 597. UCLA (598), Ohio State (601), Washington State (603) and Stanford (608) round out the top eight spots on the leaderboard. Illinois is ninth at 613.
Washington freshman Sung Ea Lee shot 1-over 73 to move up to 13th in the individual standings at 148. She has a chance to advance to the NCAAs as an individual competitor. The top two individuals, not advancing with a team, also receive berths.
Husky junior Lindsay Morgan shot 4-over 76 during the second round to drop back to 17th at 149. Louise Friberg shot 80 for a two-day total of 156 while Michelle Grafos enters the final day of play at 176.
UNLV's Sunny Oh holds a four-stroke lead after 36 holes. Oh followed up her opening round 67 with a 1-under 71 on Friday for a two-day total of 138. USC's Tanya Dergal and Washington's State's Kim Welch both carded 74s Friday to tie for second at 142.
In the other NCAA regionals, Duke continues to lead the East by nine strokes at 574. Vanderbilt is second at 583 while Georgia is third at 584. The Central Regional, which was postponed Thursday due to weather, managed to get in 36 holes of play on Friday. At 584, California leads Kent State by 11 strokes for the tournament championship.
