Nebraska and LSU Advance From NCAA West Gym Regional

Seattle - Washington's hopes to advance to the NCAA Gymnastics championships ended when the Huskies suffered a pair of falls on beam and a rare misque on bars. Second-ranked Nebraska and LSU finished first and second to advance from the regional to the NCAA Championships at Nebraska on April 24-26.
The Huskers scored 196.650 while the Tigers posted a score of 195.700, just edging the Huskies for the second automatic qualification spot. Washington finsished at 195.675 while Cal State Fullerton was fourth at 193.175. Boise State and San Jose State tied for fifth at 192.875.
Washington's Carly Dockendorf and Tacia LaBatte qualified for the NCAAs as all-around competitiors after being the highest two all-around scorers not on a team to advance. Dockendorf finished third in the all-around with a score of 39.450 while LaBatte was fifth at 39.075. Nebraska's Richelle Simpson took top honors in the all-around at 39.575 while teammate A.J. Lamb was second at 39.525.
Dockendorf led the Huskies' effort with first-place finishes on uneven bars (9.950) and floor exercise, where she tied LSU's April Burkholder at 9.925. UW's Stacy Wong shared the balance beam title with Simpson at 9.950. Lamb won the vault with a score of 9.900 while Husky freshman Kelly McDonald tied for second at 9.850. McDonald was third on bars at 9.875 and finished 10th in the all-around at 38.550.
The Huskies had the misfortune to draw a poor rotation that saw them start on floor exercise, their best event, and finish in a bye rotation. LSU drew the best rotation, the Olympic order, ending on floor. Starting the meet, the Huskies scored 48.850 on floor, their lowest score of the year on the event. LSU posted a 49.225 to end the meet on the event..
After the slow start on floor, the Huskies picked up momentum by recording a 49.075 on vault and a 49.125 on bars, despite having to throw out Emily Pritchard score after she fell during her routine. McDonald and Tanya Powers both fell on beam to hinder Washington's chances on that event.
The Huskies finsihed the season with a 21-11.
