Women's Golfers Finish Sixth at Spartan Invite

Salina, CA - The 10th-ranked Washington women's golf team turned in a final round score of 298 to finish sixth of 14 teams at the Spartan Invitational at Corral de Tierra Country Club in Salinas, Calif. The Huskies entered Wednesday's final round of play in sixth place. Washington finished the tournament at 37-over 901. Pepperdine, behind the play of senior All-American Katherine Hull, ran away from the field, finishing at 18-under 846. The Waves bettered second-place UCLA (882) by 36 strokes.
Washington was led at the event by senior Louise Friberg's seventh-place finish. She carded a 2-over 74 on Tuesday to finish at 5-over 221 for the 54-hole event. Husky freshman Sung Ea Lee was 12th overall at 6-over 222. She and Lindsay Morgan both led the Huskies during the final round with 1-over scores of 73. Morgan was 14th, one stroke behind Lee. Michelle Grafos was 46th overall at 19-over 235 and Katie Kofmehl was 71st at 45-over 261.
Friberg's finish marked the fifth time in six tournaments this year she has managed a top-10 showing.
The Spartan Invitational marked the second spring tournament that Husky sophomore Paige Mackenzie has missed due to a back injury.
Pepperdine's Katherine Hull easily took medalist honors, marking the third time this season she has won a tournament. The senior All-American shot 6-under 66 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 16-under 200. Hull's opening round score of 63 set an NCAA single-round record. Her 54-hole total is the best tournament score by a player in NCAA Division I women's golf this season. Earlier this season, Christine Boucher of Kansas State posted a 12-under par score of 204 in her win at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate.
Hull had 17 birdies and two eagles in the tournament including six birdies and an eagle in the final round.
Pepperdine's Lindsey Wright was second at 8-under 208.
The Huskies next tournament is March 24-26 at the UCLA Invitational.
