Husky Gymnasts Set School Scoring Record in Victory

Seattle - The 13th-ranked Washington women's gymnastics team (15-6) established a school record with a score of 196.700 to win a three-way meet with Cal State Fullerton and Seattle Pacific at Bank of America Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. The Huskies bettered their previous mark of 197.425 set at the 2001 Pac-10 Championships. Cal State Fullerton was second at 193.650 while the Falcons placed third at 191.825.
The team scoring mark was one of a number of records the Huskies smashed during the meet.
Kelly McDonald (Seattle) led the Huskies by winning the all-around with a score of 39.675. That was the best mark of the year by a UW gymnast and tied for the third best mark in the program's history. McDonald posted career best scores on vault (9.900) and floor (9.950), but did not win any of the event titles that the Huskies swept.
Husky junior Emily Pritchard (Buckley) returned afer a three-week absence due to kidney stones to take first place on vault (9.950) and set a career high on bars with a 9.975 to win that event. Senior Stacy Wong tied the UW all-time mark on beam with a 9.975 to win that competition. Sophomore Carly Dockendorf posted her second perfect 10.000 score of the year to take top honors on floor. She joins Tiffany Simpson as the only Husky to post more than one perfect score during a career. Simpson had three 10s on floor exercise.
The Huskies jumped out to a quick lead by scoring a season high of 49.425 on vault. After scoring 49.300 on bars Washington tied its school record for score on beam with a 49.400. Despite a fall by their first competitor on floor, the Huskies turned in five solid scores to establish the new all-time scoring mark. In addition to Dockedorf's 10 and McDonald's 9.500, sophomore Tacia LaBatte posted a career-best mark of 9.950 during the floor event.
The victory was Washington's sixth during the season. The Huskies' next meet is March 29 at the Pac-10 Championships. This year's tournament will be held at UCLA.
