UW Women's Golfers Set Record at Spartan Invite

Salinas, CA - Three Huskies carded under-par rounds to help the Washington women's golf team set a single-round school record and climb back into contention for the title at the 21st annual Spartan Invitational at Corral de Tierra in Salinas, Calif.
Washington's second round score of 285 set a school single-round record by four strokes. The old mark of 289 was set during the 1997 NCAA West Regional.
Thanks to their record-setting performance, the Huskies closed to within two strokes of tournament leading California. The Golden Bears are in first place at 589, followed by New Mexico State at 590 and Washington and Pepperdine at 591.
The Huskies were led during the second round by junior Louise Friberg, who shot 3-under 69. That equals the UW record for low second-round score. Friberg is now tied for fourth at 144. Her score was the best 18-hole total during her career.
South Carolina's Kristy McPherson leads the field at 140, including rounds of 71 and 69.
UW freshman Paige Mackenzie shot 2-under 70 during the second round to move up to ninth place at 146. She is tied there with several players, including senior teammate Kelli Kamimura, who was 1-under 71 on Tuesday.
The Huskies' Lindsay Morgan is 41st overall at 155 while Michelle Grafos is 70th at 164.
