UW Gymnastics Teams Upends No. 20 California

Seattle - The Washington women's gymnastics team posted its highest score of the season and won all four individual event titles to defeat 20th-ranked California 194.800 to 192.625 at Bank of America Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. The Huskies were led by sophomore Molly Seaman, who finished first in the all-around for the first-time in her career with a score of 39.250.
The win raised Washington's record to 2-1 while the Bears fell to 3-1.
Seaman won the beam with a score of 9.875 and tied teammate Carly Dockendorf for the floor title, also with a score of 9.875. Those wins marked the first event titles in Seaman's career. During the meet, Seaman recorded a career-best score of 9.775 on bars to finish third in that event.
Seaman was not the Huskies only first-time event winner.
Sophomore Tanya Powers took home her first event title by winning vault with a score of 9.900. That was one of four career-best scores Powers posted on the day. She had a 9.825 on beam to finish second, a 9.725 on floor and 39.200 on all-around.
Washington's Emily Pritchard tied Cal's My-Lan Dodd, a Seattle native, for top honors on bars with a score of 9.850, equaling her career high. Husky sophomore Amy Metcalf collected a career high score on bars with a 9.725.
Washington jumped out to a quick lead in the dual-meet by recording a season high score of 48.850 on vault. The Huskies went on to post season best scores on bars (48.875) and floor (49.050).
The Huskies defeated the Bears in head-to-head scoring in every event except for beam, which the Bears won 48.450 to 48.025.
Washington's next meet will be Feb. 1 when the Huskies travel to Oregon State.
