SEATTLE - The Washington men's soccer team, ranked 12th in the NSCAA preseason poll, wrapped up its preseason exhibition schedule with a 5-0 victory over cross town rival Seattle University in front of 500 fans Saturday afternoon at Husky Soccer Field.
Washington opens its regular season on the road, meeting No. 21 Creighton in the first round of the Diadora Challenge, Sept. 2 in Omaha.
The Huskies got on the board early when junior transfer Trevor Frobose scored on a straight ahead shot coming from Bryn Ritchie. UW put two more on the scoreboard in the first half, both unassisted goals, from Mark Hogenhout at 14:10 and a header off a corner kick from Ritchie at 42:10.
Jake Sagare took a pass from Frosbose to score at 63:07 and freshman Jimmy Stark put another header in to finish the scoring at 78:36.
The Huskies had 23 shots in the game while the Redhawks had five. Sophomore Chad Olsen started in goal for UW and two saves. SU's Jeremiah Doyle tallied six saves.
"I'm happy with the results today," said UW head coach Dean Wurzberger, "but we still need plenty of fining tuning. We saw some areas that need work and at the same time, we were able to play a lot of people. We made a significant amount of substitutions. It's going to be a whole different level at Creighton next week."
