SEATTLE - A home run by UCLA's Lyndsey Klein proved to be the game-winning hit, as it produced the only run in the No. 3 Bruins' 1-0 upset over No. 1 Washington on Saturday before 2,417 fans at Husky Softball Stadium. The loss puts the Huskies at 47-5 overall but still atop the Pac-10 standings with a 9-2 league mark. UCLA improves to 33-7-1 and 8-3.
Klein's homer, her seventh of the season, came on her first pitch in the sixth inning after she had struck out looking in her first two at-bats. The Huskies garnered only three hits but drew nine walks and left 12 on base, loading the bases three times, but were unable to capitalize.
UW's Jennifer Spediacci suffered just her second loss of the year in 28 decisions, while Amanda Freed, who pitched all but the sixth inning for the Bruins, improved to 17-5. Both pitchers struck out seven batters.
