With the conclusion of today's game, the Huskies finished the decade with the best record in Pac-10 play. Washington compiled a 58-21-1 record against conference opponents during the '90s. UCLA, which entered today's game with USC sporting a 47-33 record in Pac-10 play, had the second best record.
Washington's victory against WSU gave the Huskies a sweep vs. the other three northwest schools this season. The Huskies defeated Oregon (34-20 and Oregon State (47-21). Washington's all-time record vs. the other three northwest teams now stands at 169-85-15. The last Husky northwest sweep was accomplished in 1996.
UW tailback Paul Arnold's 80-yard TD run was the longest by a Husky since Rashaan Shehee rushed 85 yards for a score vs. Washington State in the 1995 Apple Cup. It was the 12th-longest run from scrimmage in Husky history, tying Arnold with Shehee who had an 80-yard touchdown scamper against Stanford in 1995.
Washington first-year coach Rick Neuheisel has led the Huskies to a 7-4 mark this season, which equals the most wins ever by a first-year UW coach. Jim Lambright took Washington to a 7-4 record in 1993, his first season as the Huskies' head coach. Neuheisel will also be the first first-year Husky coach to lead his team to a bowl game.
UW quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo had 172 yards of total offense today to finish the year with 2762. That total ranks as Huskies' single-season record. The second best mark, 2502 yards, was set by Cary Conklin in 1989.
With his 125 passing yards today, Washington quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo finished the season with 2221. That total places him in fifth place on Washington's single-season passing list. Only Cary Conklin (2569 in 1989), Damon Huard (2415 in 1995), Sonny Sixkiller (2303 in 1970) and Billy Joe Hobert (2271 in 1991) have passed for more yards in a season than Tuiasosopo.
Washington State freshman running back Deon Burnett gained 20 yards today to raise his season total to 877. Burnett needs 192 yards next week vs. Hawaii to break the Pac-10 freshman rushing record of 1,069 yards set by Stanford's Darrin Nelson in 1977.
Dane Looker's 55-yard TD pass to Joe Jarzynka in the second quarter marked the only the second pass attempt during his career. He has one pass attempt in 1998. The completion tied as the second longest of the year for the Huskies. It was the second TD catch in Jarzynka's career and the longest reception during his four-year career. His previous best was a 17-yard catch vs. Arizona State in 1998.
Washington's Joe Jarzynka had three punt returns today to finish his career with 84. That places him second on UW's all-time list, trailing only Beno Bryant, who returned 106 punts between 1989-93.
The Huskies totaled three sacks today against Washington State, matching the season-best total of three registered against both Brigham Young and California.
Sophomore defensive back Wondame Davis recorded his first start of the season for the Huskies.
