San Luis Obispo, Calif. - The Husky men's soccer team scored a goal in the first three and last five minutes of play to offset Cal Poly SLO's goal with just over nine minutes in the game for a dramatic 2-1 win. UW remains undefeated in the MPSF Mountain Division in five outings and is at 10-4-2 overall. A win over Sacramento State on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Husky Soccer Field would clinch the division for the Huskies.
UW sophomore Greg Foisie headed in a cross from classmate Benjamin Somoza at 2:16 to give the Huskies an early lead. It was almost 80 minutes later before the next goal, which Cal Poly's Anthony Dimech netted the equalizer at 81:40. He followed a rebound after Husky keeper James Dickinson stopped Spencer Frankenberger on the initial shot. After tapping the ball off the post on his first attempt, Dimech pursued it, stumbled, and on his way down headed the ball while on the ground into the net.
Senior captains Morgan McCoy and Wes Hart connected two-and-a-half minutes later. McCoy sent a long ball down the field, which Hart received while streaking toward the net. Hart sent his shot past keeper Chad Day.
True to form, the Huskies outshot the Mustangs, 15-10, and had five corner kicks to Cal Poly's two. Senior goalkeeper James Dickinson remained undefeated in goal, making five saves to CP's eight.
