TEMPE, Ariz. – The Washington women's golf team is tied for fifth place after the first round of play at the PING ASU Invitational. The Huskies shot a 5-over round of 293 on Friday at Papago Golf Course.

"Pretty steady day overall for us," said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "We just stubbed our toe coming in a bit. We'll get after it again tomorrow."

Senior Wenyung Keh led the way with a bogey-free round of 70. Her 2-under par round puts her in a tie for third place heading into the second round. Keh was one of only two players who did not card a bogey in her first round. She is three shots back of the overall lead. 

Junior Alice Duan shot a 2-over round of 74 and is tied for 30th place. Sophomore Rino Sasaki sits in a tie for 30th place after her opening round 2-over 74.

Senior Julianne Alvarez is tied for 42nd place at 3-over par after shooting a round of 75 on Friday. Freshman Martha Lewis shot an 8-over round of 80 and is in 77th place.

The Huskies were able to take advantage of the par-5's, shooting 6-under on the day which was second best in the field. 

Stanford leads the event at 1-under and one shot ahead of second place Arizona State. Andrea Lee of Stanford is the individual leader at 5-under par.

The Huskies will tee off second round play, beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning playing alongside Northwestern and UCLA.
