SEATTLE – An extra-innings thriller saw the #5 Washington Huskies take a close loss, falling 4-2 in eight innings to the #1 UCLA Bruins.
Sis Bates and
Taryn Atlee each had multi-hit games at the top of the order for the Huskies.
In the circle,
Gabbie Plain went the distance, retiring the side in order three times, including striking out the side in the fourth. After UCLA scored two runs in the third, Plain retired ten straight batters.
Washington nearly walked it off in the bottom of the seventh. Bates' leadoff double hit off the highest point of the centerfield wall, coming within inches of a home run that would have sent the Huskies home with a win.
After a misplay in right extended the inning, UCLA hit a two-run home run in the eighth, making the difference in the game.
