The University of Washington department of athletics has joined forces with Washington State and local partner Boeing to launch the "Boeing Apple Cup Series" beginning this Saturday.
The newly expanded series, which extends to matchups in all sports between the Huskies and the Cougars, includes an updated logo and celebrates student-athletes at both universities.
Boeing will be providing an in-stadium gift to the first 10,000 fans to arrive at Saturday's Boeing Apple Cup at Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium. It will be a clear drawstring bag, emblazoned with the Boeing Apple Cup Series logo (Husky Stadium adheres to a clear bag policy for the safety of our fans) and a reversible fandana to keep fans warm and show their school pride.
"We are thankful for our partnership with great local partners like Boeing who are committed to supporting our student-athletes, here at the University of Washington and across the state at WSU", said UW Director of Athletics,
Jennifer Cohen. "We are excited to work together on a new way to not just celebrate the traditional Apple Cup football game, but also to celebrate university athletes in all sports in which our two schools compete."
"Boeing employs thousands of graduates from the University of Washington and Washington State University, and we are very proud of the long-standing partnerships we have with both universities that stretch from academics to athletics," said Kevin McAllister, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "With this newly expanded Boeing Apple Cup Series, we are honored to celebrate the athletes and healthy competition between school teams – not just for one iconic football game, but for all of the men's and women's sports encompassed by the Boeing Apple Cup Series."
Kickoff at Husky Stadium is set for 5:00 PM and will air on FOX.
