September 01, 2023 | Men's Soccer
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – No. 9 Washington (2-1) opened its first road trip of the season with a 1-0 win over No. 3 Indiana (1-1-1) on Friday night at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
Tonight's victory is the first ranked regular season non-conference win for the Dawgs since traveling to No. 16 Michigan State in 2019.
The Huskies put the pressure on early with three shots on goal in the first half, but nothing was able to find the back of the net. Washington was able to limit the Hoosiers to four shots in the first 45 while allowing no corners. Six of the Huskies' seven shots during the match were on goal.
Freshman Charlie Kosakoff broke through in the 77th minute for the first goal of his career off assists by Richie Aman and Cooper Brunell. The assist for Brunell was the first of his career and the first for Aman this season.
From there, the Husky defense continued to lock down to secure the ranked dub.
Sam Fowler recorded his 27th clean sheet to move into a tie for third in program history with Craig Christopherson ('83-'86). Fowler saved a season-high six shots on the evening, five of which came in the second half.
Up next, Washington will head to Columbus, Ohio for a matchup with Ohio State on Monday. Kickoff from Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium is set for 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET on Big Ten Network.
